He said that my stand is not in favor of BJP but in favor of the government or India on some issues.
Shashi Tharoor’s Statement: Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Friday said that his stand on some issues may be seen by the media as support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but he only sees it as support for the government or India.
Tharoor said that he has clarified earlier also that he does not like to talk about politics on some international matters and instead he prefers to talk about the country.
“This is not a new thing, I have always been saying this,” Tharoor, Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram, told reporters here.
Last year, controversy had arisen over his comments on the India-Pakistan conflict and diplomatic initiatives taken after the Pahalgam attack. His comments were at odds with the Congress’ stance and many party leaders had hit out at him, questioning his intentions.
While talking to journalists, Tharoor also admitted that no party member should go against the ideology of the party.
He said, “I have always stood with the party in Parliament, so there is no need to worry.”
When reporters asked him if he could clearly say that he would not leave the Congress party, Tharoor said, “I can say that I will remain in the Congress and am not going anywhere.” I will be part of the election campaign (in Kerala) and will work for the victory of the UDF.
“But, why am I being asked to make such statements?” he asked.
Tharoor met party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi on Thursday to address his grievances, after which he said “all is well” and “everyone is together.”
Tharoor was said to be angry over the way he was treated at a recent event in Kochi and the attempts by some leaders in Kerala to ‘sideline’ him.
This meeting has taken place before the Kerala Assembly elections, which are very important for the Congress. Congress has been in opposition in the state for the last 10 years and this time it is making every possible effort to achieve victory.
