Vadodara, Jan 30: Malolan Rangarajan, the head coach of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), highlighted the significance of balancing preparation and downtime as they gear up for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) final. RCB secured their spot in the final with a commanding eight-wicket win over UP Warriorz, concluding a successful league stage.

With just under a week remaining before the championship match, Rangarajan emphasized the necessity of giving players some mental respite before they refocus on the final.

"We have around six days until the final, and it’s crucial to find the right mix of training and relaxation. I prefer that the players take a break from thinking about the final for a few days and come back rejuvenated and eager," he mentioned in a video posted by WPL on X.

Reflecting on RCB's strong performance, the coach noted that finishing at the top with a significant points margin indicates the team's consistent efforts throughout the season.

"While winning the purple cap is an achievement, the primary goal is to qualify for the final. Competing in this league is challenging, and the lead we’ve established demonstrates the team’s collaborative effort," Rangarajan remarked.

He praised captain Smriti Mandhana for her strategic insight and leadership on and off the field. Rangarajan shared that Mandhana had been meticulously studying Grace Harris during practice, which proved beneficial as Harris took two crucial wickets during the match.

“Smriti was already picking up cues in training. It was impressive to see her read the game effectively and implement it during the match,” he added.

The coach also commended Mandhana’s overall leadership, noting her calmness during the chase against the Warriors, where she remained not out at 54. “She led exceptionally well on the field and ensured she was present at the pivotal moment with the bat when we shifted the game in our favor,” Rangarajan stated.

Despite the team's excellent performance, the head coach believes there is still potential for improvement in their bowling.

“As a bowling unit, we executed several aspects well, but there are areas we can enhance. Overall, it was a strong showing, and I’m very proud of the girls,” he concluded, as RCB sets its sights on clinching another WPL title.
