Dejan Kulusevski responds to brutal injury dig as nightmare Tottenham scenario clear

Dejan Kulusevski has delivered a superb two-word reply after providing an update whilst he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury. The 25-year-old is yet to feature this season due to the problem, with his rehabilitation proving to be complex.

Thomas Frank has been compelled to manage several injury setbacks during his opening six months at the helm, although Kulusevski's issue predated his appointment. The expectation was that he would make his comeback from the injury in late 2026, but there remains no indication of his return with Tottenham fans becoming restless.

This was demonstrated by a response to his recent Instagram post where one user remarked, "I thought you died." Kulusevski then seized the chance to cheekily respond: "still alive." Prior to the Champions League encounter against Eintracht Frankfurt, Frank was pressed for an update but declared that he didn't have one.

That reaction was presumably because the Spurs manager had already provided a comprehensive update earlier in the month. He said at a press conference from early January: "We know it's a complicated injury. If there's one person who can accelerate that, it's Dejan. He's a top pro and has got a top mentality.

"The most important thing is to remove the pain in the knee. He got an injection to help that 10 days ago. We know in three to four weeks if it's settled and when it's settled, hopefully, he'll be on the grass and from there, we'll see what's happening. It was not going forward as quickly as we thought but it's an injury we haven't seen that much in football history.

James Maddison, Spurs' other attacking midfielder, has also not featured this season because of injury and may not return until the summer. He is pushing to feature in this campaign and has since been spotted out on the grass at Hotspur Way.

With the England international appearing ahead of Kulusevski in his recovery, the nightmare scenario would be that Xavi Simons remains as the only fit No.10 for the whole season. Mohammed Kudus, Richarlison, Rodrigo Bentancur, Pedro Porro, Lucas Bergvall and Ben Davies are also on the treatment table.

One fitness boost for Frank has been the return of Dominic Solanke, with the striker finding the net in Spurs' previous two Champions League fixtures. The six points secured against Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt saw the Lilywhites set up a last-16 tie against one of Club Brugge, Galatasaray, Atletico Madrid or Juventus.
