Arsenal face travel nightmare after flight issue ahead of Leeds clash
Daily mirror | January 31, 2026 4:39 AM CST

Arsenal's plans to fly to Leeds on Friday ahead of their Premier League clash at Elland Road have been changed due to dense fog. The Gunners will now look for alternative transport ahead of the 3pm kick-off on Saturday afternoon.

Some suggestions had emerged on social media that the flight carrying the squad to the north turned back mid-journey but this is understood to be incorrect. Instead, the Gunners decided not to risk taking a flight which could have been heavily delayed by the weather.

It marks the first occasion Arsenal will feature at Elland Road since 2022. A solitary Bukayo Saka strike was sufficient to claim all three points last time out, but Mikel Arteta's side had to navigate a missed Patrick Bamford spot-kick and an overturned red card ruling for Gabriel Magalhaes.

More than three years on, Arsenal travel to Leeds looking to rediscover their Premier League rhythm.

Defeated by Manchester United last weekend, the margin at the summit of the Premier League table has been cut to just four points.

Arsenal feature before their title competitors, Manchester City and Aston Villa, and can both stretch the advantage to seven points whilst also heaping pressure on the pursuing group.

Daniel Farke's outfit are only trailing Arsenal and Chelsea regarding goals from set-pieces this campaign.

And assuming the fog doesn't engulf Elland Road too on Saturday, Arteta has already discussed a strategy to counter the danger, reports football.london.

"Well, first of all, understanding what they do," he said. "Conceding very little, that's the best way for sure.

"And if we do concede, it's just to defend with your lives and good organisation to try to prevent that happening."

He also confirmed that both William Saliba and Jurrien Timber were set to be available for selection, having overcome minor issues that kept them out of the Kairat Almaty match.
