Virat Kohli has returned to Instagram after his account briefly became inaccessible, triggering widespread discussion among fans and social media users. The former India captain, who is among the most-followed athletes globally with over 274 million followers, was not visible on the platform for a short period on Friday morning. The unexplained disappearance led to speculation, concern, and humour across social media, given Kohli’s stature and online presence.

By later in the day, Kohli’s account was once again active, confirming that the absence was temporary. However, no official clarification has been issued regarding the reason behind the brief deactivation. While some fans expressed worry about Kohli’s well-being, others offered light-hearted theories, turning the episode into a trending topic across platforms.

Despite the buzz, Kohli has not addressed the matter publicly, and there has been no statement from his representatives. The episode adds to a growing pattern of Kohli maintaining a measured distance from social media engagement beyond professional obligations.

Kohli’s relationship with social media has been under scrutiny for some time. Over the past year, users observed that his Instagram feed largely featured brand-related posts, even during significant cricketing moments such as India’s title win at the 2025 Champions Trophy. He indicated that social media activity does not change on-field outcomes or achievements. Kohli had said, 

“Technology, when not attached to a goal, can be quite distracting. It is something I have experienced in my playing career. Luckily, I grew up in a time when you didn’t have this thing in your pocket (smartphone). It is much easier to keep it on the side."

On the cricketing front, Kohli has already retired from Test cricket and T20 Internationals, continuing to represent India only in the ODI format.
