PTC News Desk: A small aircraft crashed on Wednesday in a remote part of Colombia’s Norte de Santander province in the country’s northeast, killing all 15 people on board, officials confirmed. Satena, the state-run airline operating the flight, said authorities were alerted by local residents in the community of Curasica, who reported the crash site. A rescue team was dispatched to evaluate the situation.
Colombia’s Ministry of Transportation later announced that after the wreckage was found, officials sadly confirmed there were no survivors.
The plane, registered as HK4709, departed from Cucuta airport — the provincial capital — at 11:42 a.m. local time and was headed to Ocana, a mountainous municipality. The journey usually takes around 40 minutes.
According to Satena, the aircraft lost contact with air traffic control just minutes after takeoff. On board were two crew members and 13 passengers, including Diogenes Quintero, a representative for victims of the region’s internal armed conflict.
