IND vs NZ, 5th T20I: The last match of the T20 series between India and New Zealand is in Thiruvananthapuram. This is the last match of Team India before entering the T20 World Cup 2026. Apart from this, this will also be the last chance for its captain Suryakumar Yadav to become 'player number 12'. Suryakumar Yadav can capitalize on this opportunity by scoring his 33rd run in the 5th T20I against New Zealand.
Opportunity to become 'player number 12'
So far, there are 11 players in world cricket who have scored 3000 or more runs in T20 International. Suryakumar Yadav can become player number 12 by joining that club. Suryakumar Yadav currently has 2967 runs in 97 innings of 103 T20 International matches. Meaning, he is 33 runs away from achieving the success of 3000 runs in T20I, which if he achieves it in the last T20 match of the series against New Zealand, then he can enter the T20 World Cup 2026 with a big achievement.
Will become the third Indian to do so
Suryakumar Yadav will not only be the 12th cricketer in the world to score 3000 plus runs in T20 International, apart from that he will also be the third Indian to do so. Before them, Rohit and Virat had written the script of 3000 plus runs in T20 International. Rohit Sharma is the second highest run scorer in T20 International with 4231 runs in 151 innings of 159 matches. After him, in third place is Virat Kohli who has scored 4188 runs in 117 innings of 125 matches. Babar Azam of Pakistan is at number one in this list. He has scored 4453 runs in 130 innings of 137 matches.
New Zealand players can make this record
Apart from Suryakumar Yadav, two New Zealand players will also have a chance to make records in the 5th T20I. Tim Seifert, who was the hero of New Zealand's victory in the last match, is 52 runs away from completing his 2000 runs in T20I. He will be the fourth Kiwi player to achieve this feat. Tim Southee has taken the maximum 164 wickets for New Zealand in T20I. Ish Sodhi is just two wickets away from leaving him behind.
