Imran Khan:  Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has said it will receive and share the medical report of former prime minister Imran Khan with his family following a full-day sit-in staged outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan, as concerns grow within the party over his health while in custody.

Party Stages Sit-In Outside Supreme Court

PTI leaders, lawmakers, and supporters gathered outside the apex court on Friday, maintaining their protest throughout the day. The demonstration was led by PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, who told reporters that the party had remained present outside the court building for hours to press its demands. The protest was joined by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Senate opposition leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas.

Raja said the sit-in followed another overnight protest held outside Adiala jail a day earlier, which continued into the early hours of Friday. According to him, the party’s primary concern remains the wellbeing of its incarcerated founder.

Concerns Raised Over Medical Treatment

Speaking to the media, Raja stated that reports circulating about Imran Khan’s health were troubling and lacked clarity. He alleged that the former prime minister had been taken to a hospital for treatment without prior notification to his family, followed by what he described as inconsistent official statements denying the visit.

“There is nothing more important for us at this point than Imran Khan’s health,” Raja said, adding that the family had been kept in the dark regarding key developments.

Government Confirms Hospital Visit

The protest followed confirmation from Information Minister Attaullah Tarar that Imran Khan underwent treatment for an eye-related issue last week at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad. According to official statements, the procedure took place late on January 24 and lasted approximately 20 minutes.

PTI leaders have disputed the duration and circumstances of the treatment, arguing that full transparency is required in matters concerning the health of a former prime minister.

Medical Report to Be Shared With Family

Raja said he remained in contact throughout the day with senior judicial officials, including court staff and the attorney general. While he described the overall response as unsatisfactory, he confirmed that arrangements had been made to provide Imran Khan’s medical records in a sealed envelope.

Under the arrangement, the documents will be handed directly to Imran Khan, with copies provided to his sisters. The records are expected to include details of the recent hospital visit as well as earlier medical assessments conducted in jail. Raja said the family would review the report and decide whether the treatment being provided meets acceptable standards.

Future Protests and Political Consultations

Describing Imran Khan’s detention as unjust, Raja said PTI would continue to protest to secure visitation rights and ensure proper medical oversight. He added that consultations were underway with opposition figures, including Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, to determine the party’s next course of action.

However, no immediate plan emerged after meetings with leaders of the Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan alliance.

Mixed Messaging From Opposition Leaders

In a later video statement, Achakzai suggested that the focus on Imran Khan’s health was diverting attention from a nationwide protest planned for February 8. He claimed the former prime minister’s condition was being exaggerated and urged supporters to remain focused on broader political mobilisation.

Claims of Delayed Legal Proceedings

Earlier, PTI workers and lawmakers continued their presence outside the Supreme Court, with Gandapur arriving in the morning after leading the overnight jail protest. Addressing journalists, he said the public was deeply concerned about Imran Khan’s health and that efforts were being made to allow his personal doctors to examine him.

Gandapur also alleged that legal cases involving Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, had not been scheduled for hearings for nearly a year, arguing that timely proceedings could lead to their release.

Calls for Constitutional Accountability

PTI lawmaker Sardar Latif Khosa said he met court officials to remind them of their constitutional responsibilities, stressing that access to medical information was a basic right. He warned that the party viewed Imran Khan’s health as a non-negotiable issue.

Separately, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan and senior leader Babar Awan reiterated that the party’s sole concern remained Imran Khan’s wellbeing. They called for independent doctors from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital to be allowed to examine him and cautioned that withholding medical information would further inflame public anxiety.
