Rani Mukherjee’s much awaited film ‘Mardaani 3’ has been released in theatres. At the box office, it is facing tough competition from Sunny Deol’s already strong film ‘Border 2’. Despite limited screens and huge competition, the film has registered a satisfactory opening on the first day. The curiosity about Rani’s powerful character is clearly visible among the audience.
According to trade reports, ‘Mardaani 3’ made a business of Rs 3.80 crore on the opening day. Interestingly, this earning is equal to the first day collection of ‘Mardaani 2’, while it has left behind the opening day collection (3.46 crores) of the first film ‘Mardaani’ released in 2014. With this, this film has joined the top list of films which got the biggest opening in Rani Mukherjee’s career.
Made under the banner of Yash Raj Films, this franchise has been identified with powerful stories based on social issues. In the first film, an attempt has been made to expose human trafficking, in the second the mentality of a dangerous criminal and now in the third installment, a new bitter truth of the society has been tried. There is intense discussion among the audience and critics about the film.
On the other hand, ‘Border 2’ continues to remain strong at the box office. Even on the eighth day, the film has crossed the figure of more than Rs 257 crore in India, earning in double digits. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see in the coming days how long ‘Mardaani 3’ can run in this tough competition.
