Pat Cummins ruled out of T20 World Cup : Australia has suffered a major blow before the T20 World Cup, as star fast bowler Pat Cummins will not be able to play in the tournament due to injury. The team has made two changes while finalizing its squad for the upcoming tournament. Top-order batsman Matthew Short has also been left out of the original squad of 15 players.

Cummins has not fully recovered from his old back injury and will miss the tournament which begins on February 7 between India and Sri Lanka. Left-arm fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis and batsman Matthew Renshaw have been included in Australia’s 15-player squad. Selector Tony Dodmeade believes the pair can perform well in the tournament starting on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka.

Dodmeade said, “Pat needs more time to recover from his back injury, so Ben is a ready replacement who provides an option for left-arm fast bowling, as well as excellent fielding and good batting lower down the order. We are confident that his ability to swing the ball at good pace and clever variations will be a great fit for the conditions we expect and also for the overall structure of the team.

The Australian team selector further said, “With the top order set and what is expected to be a spin-friendly pitch in the pool stage in Sri Lanka, we feel that Matt will provide additional support to the middle order, while Tim David will complete his comeback program in the early stages of the tournament. Being a left-hander, he (Renshaw) can also make a difference in the middle order batting.”
