WPL 2026: How MI Can Still Qualify for the Eliminator After League Stage
Cricket Gully | January 31, 2026 10:39 PM CST

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 playoff race remains open with one league match left to play. UP Warriorz and Delhi Capitals are competing for the Eliminator place while Mumbai Indians continue their playoff push after losing to Gujarat Giants.

Gujarat Giants have already secured their Eliminator spot while the Delhi Capitals and UP Warriorz match will determine who takes the last qualification spot.

Mumbai Indians’ Qualification Scenario

Mumbai Indians finished their league schedule by earning six points from their matches. The situation now exists beyond their control because their current status determines their upcoming results. MI holds the best net run-rate (NRR) among the three playoff teams which still provides them with playoff opportunities.

UP Warriorz need to defeat Delhi Capitals for MI to qualify. The victory margin is what matters the most in this match. The three teams MI, DC, and UPW will end up with six points each if UP Warriorz win by a narrow margin. In that situation, Mumbai Indians would qualify for the Eliminator based on their higher net run-rate.

The playoff position becomes available to Delhi Capitals through their victory which eliminates Mumbai Indians from contention.

UP Warriorz Face Near-Impossible Task

UP Warriorz face a very challenging path to reaching the playoffs. They need to defeat Delhi Capitals while achieving a 156-run victory margin to surpass MI's net run-rate.

The biggest victory in WPL history occurred when Mumbai Indians defeated Gujarat Giants by 143 runs during the 2023 season. The results indicate that UP Warriorz will find it very difficult to qualify for the event.

UP Warriorz need to defeat Delhi Capitals while keeping their victory margin under control for their best upcoming situation against Delhi Capitals.

Ashleigh Gardner Leads Gujarat Giants into Eliminator

Gujarat Giants reached the Eliminator after ending their lengthy losing streak against Mumbai Indians. GG secured their first WPL victory against MI under Ashleigh Gardner's captaincy after losing eight consecutive matches.

Gujarat Giants scored 167 runs after they batted first in the match. Gardner played a key role with the bat, scoring 46 runs. The bowler showed control by limiting Harmanpreet Kaur's Mumbai team to a specific number of runs.

Gujarat Giants qualified for the playoffs through their victory by 11 runs. Georgia Wareham earned Player of the Match honors for her outstanding all-around performance during the game.

The Delhi Capitals vs UP Warriorz match will determine the final playoff spot which remains open throughout the remaining league match.
