Delhi: Former captain of the Indian cricket team and President of Bengal Cricket Association (CAB) Sourav Ganguly has described India as a strong contender for the title in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. Ganguly said that the team captained by Suryakumar Yadav is currently in its best phase and is capable of performing well in this tournament.
Great potential in Indian team
Ganguly emphasized the strength of the team in his statement. He said that the team has many talents like batsmen, spinners and fast bowling attack led by Jasprit Bumrah. He believes that it is very important to be in form on time in big tournaments and to play well consistently. Ganguly also said that past experience does not matter, but the team is very strong at present.
Indian team schedule
The T20 World Cup will start from February 7. India will start its campaign with a match against America in Mumbai on 7 February. After this, there will be a match against Namibia in Delhi on 11th February. India and Pakistan will face each other in the important match of Group A on 15 February at R.K. Colombo, Colombo. Will be held at Premadasa Stadium. The team will face Netherlands on 18th February in Ahmedabad.
Hosting of big matches in Kolkata
Eden Gardens of Kolkata will host six matches. Apart from this, the semi-finals can also be held at this stadium, if Pakistan and Sri Lanka are not able to qualify for it. Ganguly said that this will be a celebration not just for CAB but for the entire city.
Ganguly’s enthusiasm for the tournament
Ganguly said that even in 2016, when India hosted the T20 World Cup for the first time, the enthusiasm of the people was commendable. Big matches like the India-Pakistan match and the final were held in Eden Gardens. He said that this time too people will see the stadium packed and will enjoy cricket to the fullest.
