Mumbai: Sunetra Pawar, who has recently been appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, expressed her commitment to uphold the legacy of her late husband, Ajit Pawar. She emphasized that his teachings on duty, perseverance, and dedication to the community will guide her in her new role.
In a heartfelt message shared on X, she reflected on Ajit Pawar's lifelong dedication to farmers, laborers, women, youth, and marginalized groups, stating that he inspired a mantra of meaningful living.
Accepting her new responsibilities, she felt a profound emotional connection to the ideals of historical figures like Shivaji, Shahu, Phule, and Ambedkar.
Despite the sorrow from his unexpected passing, she affirmed that the values he instilled in her—such as a sense of duty and accountability—will continue to support her.
Sunetra pledged to work with integrity to achieve Ajit Pawar's vision of a fair, equitable, and developed Maharashtra.
She acknowledged the overwhelming love and support from the people of Maharashtra during this challenging time, which she considers her greatest strength. She is determined to move forward with renewed optimism while honoring Ajit Pawar's legacy.
In response to a message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she noted that his blessings serve as a source of motivation.
The Prime Minister's encouraging words bolstered her confidence as she embarks on her new journey in public service, reinforcing her commitment to work diligently for the welfare of the citizens.
Modi had conveyed his best wishes to Sunetra Pawar, recognizing her as the first woman to assume the role of Deputy Chief Minister in Maharashtra.
"Best wishes to Sunetra Pawar Ji as she begins her tenure as Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, the first woman to hold this responsibility," Modi stated in a post on X.
"I am confident she will work tirelessly for the welfare of the people of the state and fulfill the vision of the late Ajitdada Pawar," he added.
Ajit Pawar tragically lost his life, along with four others, in a Learjet 45 crash in Baramati, his hometown, on January 28.
Sunetra Pawar, aged 62, was sworn in as Maharashtra's first female Deputy Chief Minister during a brief ceremony at Lok Bhavan, officiated by Governor Acharya Devvrat.
Earlier that day, she was also elected as the leader of the state NCP legislature party.
