PCB stuck in stake dispute, T20 World Cup 2026 jersey launch suddenly canceled

The tournament begins on February 7, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, and Pakistan’s group-stage matches will be played in Sri Lanka under the hybrid model. Uncertainty arose after Bangladesh pulled out due to security concerns over India’s trip, leading the PCB to show solidarity and adopt a “wait and see” stance. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has said that the final decision will be taken by the central government, after high-level talks (including an earlier meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif). According to multiple reports, the decision is expected on Monday (February 2, 2026).

Despite the cancellation leading to speculation of a boycott, logistics preparations suggest participation is likely: the PCB has booked a flight for the team to Colombo on the morning of 2 February. The team was announced on 25 January, captained by Salman Ali Aga (which includes star players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Saim Ayub and Naseem Shah). Captain Agha had recently hinted at his preparedness for Sri Lankan conditions, indicating his intention to compete further.

The ICC has reportedly warned of consequences if it pulls out, but sources say a boycott is unlikely, and the delay in Jersey is being considered a precautionary move rather than a concrete withdrawal amid diplomatic sensitivities.
