It's bad news for Keir Starmer, as a new poll reveals that a majority of voters would like to see the Labour leader replaced. The BMG Research survey found that over half of its respondents would like a new leader, while one in five think he should remain in post.
The prime minister's favour has absolutely collapsed, with his net satisfaction rating plummeting to a record low of -49. And it doesn't stop there, even those who voted Labour at the 2024 General Election are turning their backs on the Prime minister, with a net satisfaction score of -8.
As well as dissatisfaction, voters revealed who exactly they'd like to see take the position of Prime minister. Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, secured a 24% lead over those who would like a change of leadership, with his support mainly coming from Labour voters from the 2024 election, who want Sir Keir Starmer gone.
Reform voters are also in support of the Greater Manchester mayor, with those wanting a leadership change claiming he could gain some of the support lost to Nigel Farage's party.
In addition to dissatisfaction, the poll also highlights uncertainty about potential new leaders: 23% of people selected "none of the above" when presented with various candidates, despite wanting a change.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting and former deputy minister Angela Rayner were also offered as potential candidates, with both securing just 4% support from respondents.
Mr Burham is the only Labour candidate who received a positive favourability score of +6. Mr Streeting got one of -11, whilst Shabana Mahmood, the Home Secretary, was at -20.
BMG pollster Jack Curry observed: "Only one in five think Labour should keep Keir Starmer as leader, while around half want a new figure at the helm."
He noted that Burnham "was chosen by more than all other named candidates combined."
The poll as a whole revealed that Labour voters are no longer happy with the way the party is being run, and challenges the claim that the Prime minister has the backing to stay for another full five-year term.
