The situation has reached a point where its upcoming outcome will determine everything that will follow. Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi met the country’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and later posted that a decision on the “ICC matter” will be taken by Friday or Monday (February 2). Scotland has taken over Bangladesh’s spot after the latter chose not to compete in its scheduled matches at Indian venues. The ICC will encounter major difficulties because Pakistan will create additional space that needs to be filled.
Uganda has submitted its application because it wants to participate in the T20 World Cup when more spots become available.
“Dear @ICC, If a T20 World Cup seat opens, Uganda is ready – packed and padded. Passports warm (not ice). No bakers leaving ovens or ships U-turning. The United States will deliver its best performance under stressful situations because we possess bold equipment,” Cricket Uganda posted on X.
Iceland Cricket had previously posted a message which Uganda responded to with their funny social media post. They first offered to replace Pakistan and then “withdrew” as well. The team announced their unavailability to replace Pakistan for the upcoming T20 World Cup with their following statement Our loss is likely Uganda’s gain. We wish them well.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has arranged its T20 World Cup team to go to Colombo for a departure on February 2 which makes it impossible for them to boycott both the tournament and their main match against India on February 15 according to sources who have direct access to board information.
The source said that the PCB has already made travel arrangements for the World Cup squad to leave early morning on February 2 for Colombo.
The source explained that the PCB provided complete backing to the Bangladesh Cricket Board which expressed security concerns about playing in India but the PCB needed to stop its support because any further action would harm its ICC standing.
The PCB will announce its participation confirmation on Friday according to expectations. Media sections have speculated about a possible Pakistan withdrawal from the tournament or their refusal to compete against India. An insider dismissed the reports as mere speculation according to both reports.
The PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi explained to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif during their meeting that all options under consideration must work to ensure Pakistan cricket achieves a stable and prosperous future while maintaining positive relations with both ICC and member boards according to an insider.
