Fraudsters are trying to steal account information by luring them with reward points through SMS or WhatsApp. The bank said that do not click on any unknown link and do not share your OTP, CVV or UPI PIN, to avoid missing money from the account.

Cyber Fraud Alert: State Bank of India has warned its customers not to pay attention to fake messages through SMS and WhatsApp. In the name of reward points, fraudsters lure users to fake websites, where money can be stolen from the account by asking for debit card, CVV and banking details. The bank clarified that in such a situation, a complaint should be lodged immediately on the 1930 helpline or cybercrime.gov.in, so that it is possible to compensate for the loss.

Account can be stolen through fake messages and links

The bank said that fraudsters trap users by luring them with reward points through SMS or WhatsApp. In the message, one is asked to immediately click on the link, due to which the user reaches the fake website. By entering debit card, CVV and other banking details here, money can be stolen from the account.

How to identify fake messages

According to SBI, fake messages often contain language and spelling mistakes. Such messages adopt a threatening tone and encourage the user to take immediate action. The bank never asks for sensitive information through call, SMS or link. Genuine calls come only from numbers starting with 1600.

Precautions and immediate action

Customers have been advised not to share OTP, CVV, UPI PIN or banking information with anyone. If someone has shared the information by mistake, immediately call the 1930 helpline or file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in. Timely reporting increases the chances of recovering losses.

SBI has clarified that being alert is the biggest weapon to prevent cyber fraud. It is necessary not to click on unknown links and not to share banking information.
