It's never quiet at Stamford Bridge. Even before Todd Boehly arrived at the west London outfit, Chelsea were known for their chaos, both on and off the pitch. But the American businessman's arrival appears to have cranked the madness up to another level.
Despite the revolving door of players and managers alike, the Blues do find themselves in an advantageous position, given they're still fighting strong on all four fronts. However, if they're to continue making steps in the right direction, the Chelsea hierarchy still have some major decisions to make. Express Sport have picked out three big calls that should be sanctioned.
Build a system around Reece James
Chelsea's unicorn and one of the best players in the Premier League. There isn't enough praise that can be heaped on the Englishman, which is exactly why the Chelsea gaffer needs to be building the system around him. It's all well and good seeing James move about from position to position, but it's time for him to have a settled position, so that the rest of Chelsea's play can be filtered through him, be that in midfield or at right back. The only risk is, of course, his patchy injury record!
Cole Palmer sale sanctioned
Liam Rosenior's early days as Chelsea boss have been spent batting away questions about Cole Palmer's future. A report earlier this month emerged suggesting that Palmer has grown homesick, casting doubt on his future at Stamford Bridge. While Palmer is undoubtedly one of Europe's finest talents, if the opportunity comes to bank big bucks for Palmer, Chelsea should, reluctantly, take it. Unfortunately, that's the reality of modern football, but if they can turn a £45million signing into a £150m sale, they would be foolish not to.
Reinvest Palmer money in Bradley Barcola
What's the best way to get over losing one of the continent's best match-winners? Just go out and spend big on another. Bradley Barcola looks as if he could be on the move in the summer, with Arsenal and Liverpool having been mooted as potential suitors. The Frenchman has been unable to lock down a spot in the Paris Saint-Germain starting XI, but if he was to secure a move to Chelsea, he'd surely be one of the first names on the teamsheet every week. Not that he'd come cheap though, with early suggestions that Barcola could cost over the £100m mark.
