Prime Minister Modi Calls Union Budget 2026-27 a Milestone for India's Future

On February 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi characterized the Union Budget for 2026-27 as a "historic" document, emphasizing that it embodies the aspirations of 1.4 billion Indians and enhances the ongoing reform process while outlining a clear vision for a developed India.


In his remarks following the budget announcement, Modi referred to the budget as a "highway of opportunities."


"This budget is historic. It reflects the aspirations of 140 crore Indians and strengthens our reform journey, paving the way for Viksit Bharat," he stated.


The Prime Minister expressed that India aims to be more than just the fastest-growing economy, asserting that the budget lays a solid foundation for the nation's promising future.


"The citizens of India are not merely satisfied with being the fastest-growing economy; we aspire to become the world's third-largest economy at the earliest. This is the collective determination of millions of our countrymen," he remarked.


Modi highlighted that the budget showcases the empowered role of women in the nation, commending Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for her record ninth consecutive budget presentation.


He noted that this year's budget outlines an ambitious plan to invigorate the 'Make in India' and 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' initiatives.


"This budget serves as the cornerstone for our journey towards a developed India by 2047. It will inject new energy and momentum into India's reform express," he added.


The Prime Minister also mentioned that the budget reflects a vision of trust-based governance and a human-centric economic approach, prioritizing the reduction of fiscal deficits and inflation while ensuring high capital expenditure aligns with robust economic growth.


Furthermore, he stated that the support provided to MSMEs in this budget will empower them to expand from local to global markets.
