New Delhi. World number-1 male tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has won the Men’s Singles title in the Australian Open 2026. Spanish player Alcaraz defeated Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in the final played at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on 1 February (Sunday). Alcaraz won the match against fourth seed Djokovic 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5. The title match lasted for 3 hours and two minutes. Djokovic has lost the title match at the Australian Open for the first time.

38 year old Novak Djokovic won the first set easily, but Carlos Alcaraz again regained his momentum and became the champion by winning the next three sets. Alcaraz has won the Australian Open for the first time. This was Alcaraz’s seventh Grand Slam title overall. This includes Wimbledon (2023, 2024), French Open (2024, 2025), US Open (2022, 2025) and Australian Open (2026). With this win, Alcaraz has completed his career Grand Slam.
Carlos Alcaraz is the youngest male player to complete a career Grand Slam. Alcaraz broke the 87-year-old record held by Don Budge, who completed the career slam at the age of 22 years and 363 days. Alcaraz achieved this feat at the age of 22 years and 272 days. Which players completed career slams? Among male players, before Carlos Alcaraz, Don Budge, Rod Laver, Roy Emerson, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic had completed the Career Slam. When a player wins all four major tournaments in his career, it is called Career Slam. These four major tournaments are – Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open.
On the other hand, Novak Djokovic was trying to win his 11th and 25th Grand Slam title in the Australian Open. However his dream could not be fulfilled. Djokovic is equal to former Australian legend Margaret Court in winning the most singles Grand Slam titles (women’s and men’s). Both have won 24-24 Grand Slam singles titles. However, Margaret Court had won 13 titles during this period before the Open Era. The Open Era in tennis started in the year 1968.
