T20 World Cup 2026, IND vs PAK Match: Before the T20 World Cup 2026, the cricket world has suffered a big shock. The Pakistan government has announced that their team will participate in the tournament, but will not play the group stage match against India in Colombo on 15 February. This decision has been taken amid political and recent developments. T20 World Cup 2026 is going to start from 7th February and this tournament will be played under the hosting of India-Sri Lanka. However, Pakistan team will play all its matches in Sri Lanka only.
Shocking decision of Pakistan government
Pakistan cricket team has got permission from the Government of Pakistan to go to Sri Lanka, where all their Group A matches are to be played. The India-Pakistan match was also to be held in Colombo, because Pakistan refused to play the match in India due to political reasons, after which the ICC shifted the matches of both the teams to neutral venues. Now Pakistan has decided to boycott only this one match, due to which they will not be completely out of the tournament. Earlier, Pakistan had also threatened to pull out of the tournament.
India will get 2 points
Due to this decision, Pakistan will have to lose two points in the group stage, because the match will be considered forfeit. India will get two points without playing. However, this could be a big financial loss for the ICC, because the India-Pakistan match is the most watched and grossing match of the World Cup. Not only ICC but Pakistan will also have to face huge losses.
This decision of Pakistan has come after Bangladesh was removed from the tournament. Bangladesh refused to participate in India due to security concerns, after which the ICC dropped them. Pakistan had earlier also talked about withdrawing from the tournament in support of Bangladesh, but in the end they have chosen the path of leaving only the India match.
