Jodhpur. The Rajasthan High Court on Saturday rejected the bail pleas of filmmaker Vikram Bhatt, his wife Shwetambari Bhatt and two others involved in the ongoing investigation in a high-profile case to an alleged fraud of around Rs 30 crore. Justice Vinod Kumar Bharwani, while giving the verdict, emphasized that it would not be appropriate to grant bail at this time.

During the court hearing, the special government lawyer opposed the bail pleas and said that the investigation is still going on, and further interrogation of the accused is necessary. “If the petitioners are released on bail at this stage, they may influence the witnesses; therefore, the bail petitions should be rejected,” the lawyer argued.

The case against Vikram Bhatt and his wife is based on allegations of gross financial misconduct. The couple is accused of creating fake invoices in different names and transferring money from the complainant’s account for film production to their personal accounts for personal use.

Before the bail hearing, Bhatt had filed a petition in the High Court seeking quashing of the FIR, arguing that the case was not a criminal but a civil dispute. However, the High Court refuted this claim and said that funds have been misused in this case, due to which the scope of police investigation has increased.

These allegations first came to light when an FIR was registered at Bhupalpura police station in Udaipur on November 17, 2025. Entrepreneur Dr Ajay Murdia, owner of Indira Group of Companies (Indira IVF), filed a complaint alleging that he was the victim of fraud and criminal breach of trust, and claimed that funds withdrawn in the name of a film project were misused by Bhatt, his wife and others involved. Following the complaint, Vikram and Shwetambari were detained in December last year.
