New Delhi, 1 February. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is presenting the Union Budget for the year 2026-27. This is a historic occasion, because for the first time in the history of independent India, the budget is being presented on a Sunday. This is Sitharaman’s ninth consecutive budget. Presenting the Union Budget 2026-27, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, “Ever since we assumed office 12 years ago, the country’s economic condition has been marked by stability, fiscal discipline, consistent growth and moderate inflation. This is the result of the conscious decisions that we have taken even in times of uncertainty and disruption.”

Presenting the Union Budget 2026-27, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, “We have undertaken far-reaching structural reforms. Maintained a strong emphasis on fiscal prudence and monetary stability, as well as public investment, with self-reliance as a pillar. We have built domestic manufacturing capacity, energy security and reduced significant import dependence.”
