Iran Protest Death Toll News In Hindi: There is increasing global and internal pressure over the actual number of people killed during the recent protests in Iran. According to The Guardian report, the Iranian government has taken an extraordinary step by publishing the list of names of the dead.

This step has been taken to reject allegations that security forces have committed ‘crimes against humanity’ And the death toll could be up to 30,000.

Government figures vs ground reality

A total of 3,117 people, including security personnel, have been killed, according to official figures released by Iran’s Martyrs Foundation. However, Iranian reformists and teachers’ unions have rejected these figures outright. The Tehran Teachers Union issued a strong statement saying it was one of the bloodiest chapters of repression in contemporary Iranian history, leaving thousands of women and children bloodied.

Demand for independent investigation and transparency

There is now a demand from within Iran to form an independent and impartial investigation committee. Reformist analyst Ahmed Zeidabadi has suggested that a United Nations (UN) fact-finding team should be sent to Iran to maintain the credibility of the data at the international level. Meanwhile, Mohsen Borhani, a law professor at Tehran University, believes that for transparency, a website should be created where citizens can upload information about the deceased as families fear reprisals by security forces.

Thousands of people in custody, crisis on youth

Apart from the violence, the number of people detained is also a matter of concern. Although no official numbers have been released, it is believed that thousands of people are lodged in jails. According to lawyers, most of those arrested are youth born between 1980 and 1985 who were the sole earning members of their families. Former President Hassan Rouhani has also expressed concern over this situation, saying that these demonstrations of the new generation show the need for major political changes and electoral reforms in the country.
