Ahead of the 2026 budget, the government has presented a complete account of the current financial year to Parliament. It has also provided its estimates for the financial year 2027. This document, presented in Parliament, is called the Economic Survey. In this document, the central government has stated that the country's rural areas are progressing and the rural economy is gaining strength. Let's find out what information the government has provided regarding schemes ranging from the Lakhpati Didi scheme for rural women to the rural employment scheme G-Ram G.
In the Economic Survey, the government has estimated GDP growth for the financial year 2027 to be between 6.8% and 7.2%. This is considered good given the current global tensions. The government has also provided a complete description of the work done in the rural sector.
The government says that rural India is no longer just a beneficiary of government schemes, but has become an essential and strong part of the country's economy. According to NABARD's Rural Economic Situation and Sentiment Survey, 79.2% of rural households have expressed confidence. Meanwhile, 67% of the monthly income of rural families is being spent on consumption, which clearly shows strong market potential in villages.
From Lakhpati Didi to G-Ram G
While discussing the rural economy, the government also mentioned its schemes. According to the government, the Lakhpati Didi scheme provided women associated with Self-Help Groups (SHGs) with money and work skills, enabling them to earn independently. Along with Lakhpati Didi, the G-Ram G reform has transformed MGNREGA from merely a wage-based scheme into a future-oriented scheme for employment and skill development. Meanwhile, the PM-JANMAN scheme has been launched specifically for the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) to ensure they receive equality and justice.
The Economic Survey also indicates that increasing purchasing power in rural areas is a sign that the village economy is becoming self-reliant. Rural development is no longer limited to just income generation, but also includes strengthening human capabilities through improved health and education.
