Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made important announcements in the budget for the financial year 2026-27 to strengthen the country's digital security and citizens' privacy.
The government has announced the launch of the National Data Governance Framework Policy. This policy has been designed to secure the country's growing digital economy and ensure the safe use of data.
According to the budget speech, the policy aims to enable secure access to non-personal data by startups and researchers to promote innovation.
To strengthen cybersecurity, the budget also proposes the formation of the Indian Data Management Office (IDMO). This office will oversee the execution of the National Data Governance Framework Policy.
The IDMO will not only curb cybercrimes and data theft incidents but will also increase the trust of ordinary citizens in digital services.
According to the budget documents, a special allocation has been made for cybersecurity research and development. This will help in tackling cyber fraudsters and fraud committed through new technologies.
