Budget 2026 News: After the announcements of the general budget, there is a lot of activity in the political circles. Rahul Gandhi had arrived in Parliament yesterday to listen to the speech of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, but he refused to react immediately.

There are often allegations of bias in politics, but this time’s budget is telling a different story. While in previous years Bihar and Andhra Pradesh were in the news, this time the central government has also opened the coffers for Congress ruled states like Karnataka, Telangana and Himachal Pradesh. Now when Rahul Gandhi speaks, he will have to present his views by striking a balance between these development plans and the interests of the state.

State share and big projects

The central government has not reduced the rights of the states in tax distribution. States will continue to receive 41% of the total tax. With this, states like Karnataka and Telangana will get huge amount for development works. Apart from this, a provision of Rs 12.2 lakh crore has been made for infrastructure, the major benefit of which will be to the South Indian states. The biggest gift to the residents of Bengaluru and Hyderabad is the High Speed Rail Corridor. Of the 7 new corridors announced in the budget, the main routes will connect Hyderabad-Bengaluru and Chennai-Bengaluru. This will increase the speed of trade and traffic manifold.

Mention of special schemes for Congress ruled states in the budget

Himachal Pradesh : Eco-friendly mountain trails will be built to promote tourism. This will increase employment opportunities in remote areas.

Karnataka : Turtle Trails project will start for the conservation of turtles. Its objective is to bring Karnataka’s coastal tourism to the level of Sri Lanka and Thailand. By the way, Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar alleged that despite paying the highest tax, Karnataka is still waiting for its entitlement of Rs 5300 crore for the Upper Bhadra Project.

Bet on electoral states

When Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman came to present the budget wearing a Kanjeevaram saree, it was not just a dress, but was seen in connection with the upcoming elections in Tamil Nadu. BJP is trying to strengthen its presence in the South. Chennai has been given two bullet train corridors and high speed connectivity. Rare Earth Corridor will be established to make Tamil Nadu a hub of critical minerals. Adichanallur in Thoothukudi will be developed as a global tourist destination. A special budget has been allocated for farmers cultivating coconut and cashew nuts. Chief Minister MK Stalin termed these announcements as empty promises. Citing Madurai AIIMS, he said that without funds and time limit, such announcements remain just election slogans.

Masterplan for Kerala

It has been included in the Rare Earth Corridor connecting Kerala to Vizhinjam Port, which is expected to bring investment of Rs 42,000 crore. Apart from this, lakhs of farmers of Kerala will benefit from the Coconut Promotion Scheme. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan reacted sharply to this. He raised questions on ignoring old demands like Wayanad package and AIIMS. Vijayan alleges that the central government is punishing those states which are performing better on the standards of education and health.

chessboard of development and politics

Budget 2026 has laid such a checkerboard of development and politics, where while the central government is trying to show its inclusive image, the opposition parties are calling it an election strategy.
