New Delhi, 2 February. During the motion of thanks on the President’s address in the Lok Sabha on Monday, the situation became tense when Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi raised questions about the Doklam dispute and former Army Chief General M.M. Started quoting excerpts from Naravane’s book. At the beginning of his speech, Rahul Gandhi said, “I am reading something from General Naravane’s memoir. Listen to it carefully, it will tell you who is a patriot and who is not.” He claimed that Chinese tanks had come very close to the Indian border in Doklam.
Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah’s counterattack
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh immediately stood up and expressed strong objection to these claims of Rahul Gandhi. Rajnath Singh said, “The book that Rahul Gandhi is referring to has not been published yet. Do not mention such things in the House which are not authentic in the public domain.”
Amit Shah said that the Home Minister intervened and said that the basis on which Rahul Gandhi is basing it can only be a magazine report, General Naravane has not said so. He sarcastically said that the magazine can write anything. Seeing the increasing uproar in the House, Speaker Om Birla interrupted Rahul Gandhi and said that being the leader of the opposition, he should follow the rules. He clarified that only those documents or cuttings which are authentic can be kept in the proceedings of the House.
