GUWAHATI, Feb 2: Cheme Serdeon, a Senior Manager at the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) Bongaigaon and originally from Gangtok, achieved an extraordinary milestone by reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro on January 23, as reported in a recent press release.
Mount Kilimanjaro, standing at an impressive 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level, is recognized as the tallest freestanding mountain globally, situated in Tanzania. Serdeon successfully ascended via the scenic Lemosho Route, completing the journey in eight days.
This accomplishment holds a special significance as Serdeon was accompanied by her parents, Pema Tsomo Bhutia and Tshering Tashi Bhutia, who trekked up to 5,200 meters, just 695 meters shy of the summit, despite facing physical challenges.
The support and encouragement from her parents were crucial to her success, as highlighted in the release. Serdeon noted that while she lacked formal mountaineering training, her determination, mental fortitude, and the unwavering support of her family enabled her to tackle the climb's physical and emotional hurdles.
What makes Serdeon's achievement even more remarkable is that she accomplished this feat without extensive mountaineering experience, relying instead on her daily fitness routine, resilience, and strong will—qualities that reflect the values of perseverance and excellence upheld by NTPC.
Her parents, who accompanied her to Base Camp and ascended to 5,200 meters, demonstrated incredible courage and determination, deserving recognition for their support throughout the journey.
According to the release, "The NTPC family is immensely proud of her outstanding achievement, which not only brings honor to NTPC Bongaigaon but also serves as a significant source of inspiration for employees, their families, and the broader community to chase their aspirations with bravery and conviction."
