Building on the concept introduced at the Read Marathon Hanoi Midnight 2022, organizers have revived a rectangular medal with serrated edges resembling stamp perforations. The design symbolizes each stride as a journey linking the city’s past and present, according to the organizing committee.

The medal highlights two of Ho Chi Minh City’s most recognizable structures, embossed against a purple background representing the night sky and accented by an orange-gold moon motif. Silver remains the dominant tone, lending the piece a refined, modern finish.

Organizers said the Central Post Office embodies the city’s historical depth and the passage of time, while the Bitexco Financial Tower reflects its contemporary dynamism and upward momentum.

“At the Ho Chi Minh City night race, every step is like gliding through layers of the city’s timeline, from decades-old buildings to icons of modern growth. We want this year’s medal to capture that harmony, preserving the intersection of past and present in the rhythm of the night,” a representative of the organizers said.

Launched in 2023, the Read Marathon Ho Chi Minh City Midnight has grown into Vietnam’s largest night race, attracting 11,000 runners in both 2023 and 2024. Participation rose to 12,000 last year and is expected to increase further this year.

Runners will start at midnight in the city center, with the route passing landmarks such as Tao Dan Park, the Independence Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral, and Nguyen Hue Walking Street.

“This medal is our tribute to the finishers. Each runner takes home a complete snapshot of Ho Chi Minh City at night,” the organizers added.

This year’s race will be held on March 22. The event is seen as an opportunity for the running community to reunite early in the year and kick off a new racing season.
