Can They Qualify After Boycotting India Match?

Pakistan’s not going to play against India in the 2026 T20 World Cup. The Pakistani government said they could play in the World Cup but not against India. If they don’t play the match, India will get two points automatically.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was mad because the ICC said no to moving Bangladesh’s game from India to Sri Lanka due to security issues. They implied they might not play in the 2026 T20 World Cup after the ICC switched Bangladesh with Scotland. After a week of not knowing, the PCB made their decision known, and it was quite surprising.

If Pakistan doesn’t play the India match, it’ll be hard for them to get to the Super 12s. Only the best three teams from each group move on. India will probably win Group A, so there’s only one spot left. By not playing India, Pakistan has one less game, so they have to win all their other games against the USA, the Netherlands, and Namibia. Even if they win all those games, the USA, Netherlands, or Namibia could still end up with more points and move on instead. Also, Pakistan needs all their games to happen since rain often cancels games in Sri Lanka.

Now everyone’s waiting to see what the ICC does after the Pakistani government’s announcement. Before, there were reports that the ICC might punish the PCB if they skipped the World Cup or the India game. The PCB might be banned from the Asia Cup and ICC events and might not be allowed to play other series. Plus, cricket boards might be told to stop letting their players play in the PSL. It looks like the T20 World Cup might be pretty messy.
