Jarrett Allen was feeling it early. So much that he even tried a heat check 3 pointer from the top of the key. It missed badly. But that was the only shot that did.

Everything else went his way.

The Cleveland Cavaliers rolled past the Trail Blazers 130 111 on Sunday night. Allen was the reason. He finished with a career high 40 points in just under 30 minutes. It was one of those nights where the game looked easy for him.

Most of his scoring came right near the basket. Dunks. Layups. Quick finishes. He kept beating Donovan Clingan to his spot. Portland could not slow him down. Allen shot 16 of 23 from the floor and went 8 of 12 from the line.

He did more than score.

Allen grabbed 17 rebounds. He handed out 5 assists. He blocked 4 shots. He even added 2 steals. No player in NBA history has ever put up 40 points 15 rebounds and 5 assists in under 30 minutes. Allen just did that.

Once he got hot, the Cavs made sure to keep feeding him. Craig Porter Jr. played a huge role. He drove into the lane again and again just to draw defenders. Then he dropped the ball off to Allen for easy buckets. Porter finished with 12 assists. Many of them went straight to Allen.

Donovan Mitchell did not need to take over. He scored only 14 points. But he added 9 assists. He kept finding Allen and Sam Merrill. Merrill knocked down 6 of his 8 three point attempts and finished with 22 points.

Allen is sometimes a quiet presence. If he does not start fast, he can drift through games. That was not the case on this night. Early in the first quarter, he scored 12 straight points for Cleveland. From there, he never slowed down.

The Cavs will soon add new faces. Dennis Schroder and Keon Ellis are expected to debut Wednesday against the Clippers. Wherever they were watching from on Sunday night, they saw exactly what Jarrett Allen can do when he gets rolling.

And when that happens, there are not many teams that can stop him.
