Mumbai Get Major Boost as Shardul Thakur, Yashasvi Jaiswal Rejoin Ranji Trophy 2025-26 Squad

The Mumbai cricket team received a major advantage for their upcoming Ranji Trophy 2025-26 quarter-finals after all-rounder Shardul Thakur and star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal returned to the team. The 42-time champions have included both players in their 16-member squad for the quarter-final clash against Karnataka, which is set to begin on February 6.

Thakur and Jaiswal both missed the recent Ranji matches that Mumbai played. Thakur remained out after suffering a calf injury during the Vijay Hazare Trophy, while Jaiswal’s absence created confusion, with even the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) initially unsure about the reason. The matter gained attention as Jaiswal had no international duties at that time.

Reports later revealed that Jaiswal underwent an endoscopy and he remains in recovery from his hospitalization which resulted from severe food poisoning during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at Pune. The young opener cannot compete at his highest level yet but he seems prepared to play in the quarter-final match.

Thakur’s comeback to the team holds great significance because he will lead the team during their upcoming quarter-final match. The team includes Thakur Jaiswal and the following players who have helped Mumbai win domestic competitions during recent years Sarfaraz Khan Siddhesh Lad Shams Mulani Tanush Kotian and Tushar Deshpande. Aakash Anand and Hardik Tamore will share wicketkeeping duties together with Musheer Khan and Suryansh Shedge who have been selected for the team.

Mumbai needs to make two mandatory roster changes because of player injuries. Aakash Parkar will not play because he sustained an injury while Shams Mulani returns to the team after overcoming his medical issues. The team brought back Suryansh Shedge because of his strong showings with the Mumbai Under-23 team.
