Indian space technology startup Digantara Industries has signed a significant agreement with Singapore's Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA). The agreement aims to protect Singapore's national satellites from collisions with space debris. Specialized technology will be developed for this purpose. Bengaluru-based Digantara Industries says this is the first time a Singaporean defense entity has partnered with an Indian space-tech company.

What is this technology, and why is it important?
Today, thousands of fragments of old satellites and space debris are floating in space. Even small pieces can destroy an operational satellite. Digantara and Singapore's DSTA will jointly develop Space Situational Awareness (SSA) tools. This technology will act like a radar, monitoring every movement of debris in space and issuing alerts before a collision occurs. The goal is to ensure the safety and longevity of satellites in the increasingly congested orbital environment.

The agreement also includes plans to integrate Digantara's sensor data with AI-based analytics. The Singaporean government will also participate in the assembly, integration, and testing processes of Digantara's upcoming space-based sensor missions.

Singapore to gain 'Sovereign Control.'
Digantara CEO Anirudh Sharma stated that the biggest advantage of this partnership is 'sovereign control'. This means that the Singaporean government will have complete control over the software and tools developed by Digantara. They will be able to use it locally according to their needs.

Combination of AI and Sensors
Artificial intelligence (AI) will be used for accurate data analysis in this project.
Flight Dynamics: Will identify potential threats to the satellite's trajectory.
Sensor Data: Will track debris using sensors located in space and on the ground. Assembly and Testing: Experts from Singapore will collaborate with Digantara to assist in the testing and fitting of these sensors.

Opening the Door to Asia-Pacific
Digantara views this partnership as a significant opportunity for expansion in the Asia-Pacific region. The company believes that Singapore will provide a gateway to other Asian markets such as South Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand. According to the company, Digantara's expertise in space and ground-based sensing infrastructure will be used to develop software applications that will make satellite tracking more accurate and efficient.
