New Delhi: A total of eight Opposition MPs have been suspended in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday for ‘unruly behaviour’. The suspended MPs allegedly disrupted the proceedings of the House and threw papers in the direction of the chair.
Action taken after Rijiju passed the resolution
The action was taken after a resolution was passed by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. Following their suspension, the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day. It will now reconvene tomorrow at 11 AM.
The MPs who have been suspended are – Hibi Eden, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Manickam Tagore, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Kiran Kumar Reddy, Prashant Padole, Dean Kuriakose (all Congress) and CPI (M) MP S Venkatesan.
‘A serious violation of parliamentary decorum’
The Chair described the conduct as a serious violation of parliamentary decorum and said that such behaviour won’t be tolerated. Talking about the development, the BJP MPs said that the continuous disruptions in the House led to escalation of misconduct, which included attempts to target the presiding officer by throwing papers. The ruling party further said that it would lodge a complaint with the Lok Sabha speaker.
The adjournment was done after a sharp exchange in the Lok Sabha over an unpublished memoir by former Army Chief MM Naravane. The ruckus happened when the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, attempted to reference during his speech on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, alleging that he was not allowed to speak on the India-US deal, he said, “Because he is compromised. He has sold the country. That’s why I am not being allowed to speak in Parliament. Narendra Modi is scared because the people who built his image are now afraid of losing that image. The Prime Minister is under pressure. There is a case against Adani in America. They are not targeting Adani in America. They are targeting Narendra Modi’s financial structure.”
