News India Live, Digital Desk: Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor’s much-awaited film ‘O’ Romeo is stuck in a serious legal trouble just a few days before its release. Sanobar Sheikh, daughter of former Mumbai underworld figure Hussain Ustra, has approached a Mumbai civil court against the release of the film. Sanobar alleges that the film is an unauthorized biopic based on his father’s life, in which his character has been misrepresented. Hussain Ustra’s daughter’s demand: “First show us the film.” Sanobar Shaikh has filed a civil suit regarding this film directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. His main objections are as follows: Misrepresentation: Sanobar claims that his father Hussain Ustra was not a gangster but had helped Mumbai Police and intelligence agencies (IB). Showing him as a criminal in the film’s trailer hurts the reputation of his family. Self-interest: The petition alleges that filmmaker Sajid Nadiadwala and director Vishal Bhardwaj are trying to take commercial advantage of a ‘human tragedy’. Ban on release: Sanobar has demanded that until a pre-screening of the film is conducted for the family and their objections are not resolved, the film will not be released. Or it should not be released on the OTT platform. Court’s stand: Important hearing to be held on 6th February. Mumbai’s sessions court will hear this matter on 6th February 2026. This date is just a week before the release of the film (13 February), which can prove to be very important for the future of the film. Makers’ Defense: On the other hand, the makers of the film have completely rejected all these allegations. He says that ‘O Romeo’ is completely a fictional story and its resemblance to any living or dead person is just a coincidence. Is the film inspired by Hussain Zaidi’s book? It is discussed that ‘O Romeo’ is inspired by a chapter of famous writer and journalist Hussain Zaidi’s book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’. Shahid Kapoor is playing the role of a gunman in the film, and along with him, veteran actors like Trupti Dimri, Nana Patekar, and Vikrant Massey are also going to be seen. What is the real history of Hussain Ustra? Sanobar Shaikh has argued in her petition that her father was a law-abiding citizen who had helped the police against D-Company. He told the court that in 1994, the Mumbai Police Commissioner had also approved a bulletproof jacket for his father’s protection, which proved that he was an ‘asset’ of the police and not a gangster.
