ICC’s final warning to Pakistan Cricket Board regarding T20 World Cup

New Delhi: Pakistan has decided to boycott the cricket match against India. This step may prove costly for Pakistan. The ICC has clarified that this will not only cause financial loss to the PCB, but it may also face legal action from the official broadcaster JioStar. This decision has been taken on the instructions of the Pakistan government, which is giving rise to a new controversy in international cricket.

ICC’s strict warning

The ICC has warned the PCB that if the match against India is not played, there will be serious consequences. According to sources, ICC fears that JioStar may take legal action for its commercial losses. PCB has not yet sent any formal letter to ICC in this matter.

Broadcaster’s rights and contracts

There is a four-year contract between ICC and JioStar, in which India-Pakistan matches were considered important. JioStar has paid a huge amount on the basis of these matches. If the match does not take place, JioStar will have every right to approach court against both ICC and PCB.

35 million dollar threat

The ICC could cut Pakistan’s annual revenue share by about $35 million. This amount can be given as compensation to the broadcaster. There are growing concerns within the PCB that this economic shock could affect the board’s future plans.

What argument did PCB give?

PCB argues that it has taken this decision as per the instructions of the government. But according to ICC rules, this argument is not considered very strong. Pakistan has played all its matches at neutral venues, so refusing to play against India could be considered a violation of the rules.

Speculation of U-turn intensifies

There is speculation about PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi that he may change his decision after the elections to be held in Bangladesh on February 12. Naqvi is also a politician, and he is being accused of giving a political message. If the decision is reversed two days in advance, the crisis may be averted, otherwise Pakistan is in danger of being isolated in international cricket.
