Ola Electric on Thursday announced the launch of ‘Ola Shakti’, the first Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) that is completely made in India.

This is the electric scooter maker’s first foray into clean energy, and can be used to power even heavy appliances like air conditioners and refrigerators at home, in addition to farm equipment and offices.

“Ola Shakti is a natural next step for us as we leverage our existing 4680 cell technology, Gigafactory production capabilities, and nationwide Ola network,” Ola Electric CMD Bhavish Aggarwal said.

Ola Shakti will be powered using Indian-made 4680 cells. Named after their dimensions (46mm diameter and 80mm height), these are larger, more energy-dense, and are more energy efficient batteries that the brand uses in their own electric scooters. These are also reportedly capable of fast charging and are cheaper to produce than NMC 2.0 batteries.

Ola’s BESS will be launched in four variants—1.5 kWh, 3 kWh, 5.2 kWh, and 9.1 kWh, with prices starting at Rs 29,999, and going up to Rs 1,59,999 respectively, for the first 10,000 units.

Reservations begin today at Rs 999, with deliveries to begin from Makar Sankranti next year (January 26, 2026).

The announcement led to a surge in Ola Electric’s share price by 5 per cent, hitting the upper band of Rs 55.20 per share. BSE Sensex was also trading 0.57 per cent higher, at the 83,076.41 level.

The company now expects its annual Gigafactory consumption for the BESS market—projected to grow over Rs three lakh crore by 2030— to scale up to 5 GWh, and for these portable batteries to exceed its electric vehicle production over the next few years.
