Dehradun: A major accident occurred this morning in Vikasnagar, Uttarakhand, when a Himachal Roadways bus lost control and plunged into a 100-meter-deep gorge near Kuwanu on the Meenas road. The bus, numbered HP66A-2588, was traveling from Nerwa to Paonta in Himachal Pradesh when the tragedy struck.
According to preliminary information, the bus was carrying 35–36 passengers. So far, three people, including two women and two man, have been confirmed dead. Around 11–12 passengers sustained serious injuries. The injured were immediately rushed to Vikasnagar Hospital for treatment, while rescue teams continued to search for others trapped in the wreckage.
SDRF quickly dispatched teams from Chakrata
Upon receiving the information, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) quickly dispatched teams from Chakrata, Tyuni, Dakpathar, and Mori posts. The rescue operation is being carried out jointly by SDRF and local police forces in the revenue area. SDRF Commander Shri Arpan Yaduvanshi is monitoring the situation closely from the battalion headquarters in Jolly Grant.
Kalsi Police Station in-charge Deepak Dhariwal confirmed that rescue operations are ongoing and all injured passengers are being shifted to nearby hospitals. The accident site is difficult to access, making the rescue operation challenging, but teams are working tirelessly to save lives.
CM Dhami expressed deep sorrowChief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow over the incident. In a statement, he said, “We have received the tragic news of an accident involving a Himachal Transport Corporation bus in the Kalsi area. I spoke with the District Magistrate and provided necessary instructions. The district administration and police immediately launched a rescue and relief operation. All nearby medical centers have been put on high alert. If necessary, seriously injured passengers will be airlifted to advanced medical centers.”
Government has assured that all possible helpThe accident has shocked residents of the region, with locals recalling similar tragic incidents in the past. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, which may have been due to the bus losing control on the steep and narrow mountain road. The government has assured that all possible help will be provided to the victims and their families.
