Delhi Capital's prominent South African wicketkeeper-batter, Trystan Stubbs, has signed with Hampshire in the T20 Blast for the coming summer. He is expected to join the side immediately after the conclusion of the 2026 Indian Premier League.
As per reports from ESPN Cricinfo, Stubbs will be with the side for three months, for the T20 Blast and then for The Hundred. Notably, the T20 Blast will be played from May 26 to July 18. The Hundred, will run from July 21 to August 16. This will let Stubbs make good use of the three-month gap in the South African international cricket calendar.
The Delhi Capitals touch in Hampshire
The GMR Group is already a co-owner of Delhi Capitals. Later in 2024, they bought the stake of Rod Bransgrove in the club in a deal worth nearly £120 million. This made a major shareholder of the Hampshire Club.
Not only that, a few months later, they joined the Southern Brave in The Hundred by buying 49% of the stake in the franchise from the ECB.
Meanwhile, Stubbs was one of the prominent players for Delhi Capitals, scoring over 600 runs, with an average over 50 in the last two seasons. In 2024, he had a strike rate of 190, and in 2025, his strike rate dipped but yet ticked to 150. And with that, he will be continuing for the third season as well.
Thus with the DC touch in Hampshire, Stubbs earned a privilege in Hampshire.
The known support staff in Hampshire
Apart from the franchise, Stubbs has been exposed to the core coaching staff of Hampshire. In the SA20 League, Stubbs plays for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape. He was with the team as a leader of the side, winning the title last month. The side's head coach, Adi Birrell, and assistant coach, Russell Domingo, have been appointed for the same in Hampshire.
The director of Hampshire cricket, Giles White, sounded delighted to have the young Protea in the side. He said,
"Tristan is a hugely talented player with strong connections to the club through his time at Delhi Capitals and his relationships with our coaches, past and present. He's a wonderful addition, and having him involved is a massive boost for both our squad and the competition as a whole. We can't wait to see him light up the Bowl."
Added to this, Hampshire have filled both overseas slots for the Blast, with Australia’s Hilton Cartwright returning after playing a key role in last season’s run to the final.
