New Delhi: A mild earthquake tremor was felt across parts of Kolkata on Tuesday. Around 9:05 pm earthquake tremor prompted residents to step out briefly to seek refuge in safer places. According to the initial reports, there is no damage to life or property.
EMSC data revealed that the earthquake struck 70 miles east of Akyab in Myanmar. The 5.9 magnitude earthquake tremors were felt in various parts of West Bengal, including Kolkata and neighbouring Bangladesh.
This is the 3rd felt earthquake in Myanmar in the last 71 hours, according to EMSC. In November last year, Kolkata was shaken in the same way. According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the epicentre of the earthquake was near Ghorashal, 28 km northeast of Dhaka, Bangladesh. And now the source is in Myanmar.
