IGNOU January Session 2026: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has provided significant relief to students for the January 2026 academic session. The university has extended the last date for re-registration to February 15, 2026.  Previously, the deadline was January 31, but the government university extended it considering the convenience of the students.

IGNOU management stated that many students were unable to complete the process on time due to difficulties related to fee payment, document uploading, and online system issues. This decision was made to ensure that no student's studies are interrupted and that everyone gets an equal opportunity.

Re-registration is mandatory for students who are already enrolled in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) or online programs and wish to continue to the next semester or year. If a student does not complete this process, they will not be able to progress academically. In other words, entry to the next class or semester will not be granted without re-registration.

The university has clarified that this facility is only for existing students. Those who wish to take new admissions in the January 2026 session should not use this portal. The process for fresh admissions is handled through a separate system.

Fee of Rs. 300
During re-registration, students will have to pay a fee of Rs. 300 online. This fee can be paid through debit card, credit card, net banking, or other online payment options. IGNOU has advised students not to wait until the last day, as the website is more likely to be slow or experience technical problems at that time.

It is advisable to keep some necessary documents ready before filling out the form. This includes scanned photographs and signatures. For some courses, educational certificates, category certificates, or experience-related documents may also be required. Students are advised to carefully check their course, semester, and personal details before submitting the form.

How to Re-register
To re-register, students need to visit the official IGNOU portal onlinerr.ignou.ac.in. They will then need to log in using their username and password. Those who do not have login details will need to create an account first. After completing the process, it is important to download the confirmation page so that it can be used for future reference if needed.
