A Mount Horeb School District coach has been fired by the district amid a police investigation involving allegations of inappropriate communications with students. According to news outlets WKOW 27 News and Channel3000, Mount Horeb School District Superintendent Steve Salerno confirmed on Tuesday (February 3, 2026) that the district fired its track and field head coach amid a police investigation.
A joint news release between the Mount Horeb School District and the police department on Monday (February 2, 2026) revealed that the investigation is in connection to concerns of "inappropriate communications" between David Chancellor and students under the age of 18, WKOW 27 News reported.
"It is too early in this investigation to provide any further details as to the context or depth of this reported communication," the release further stated. The terminated coach was identified as David Chancellor, who coaches track & field and cross country. According to WMTV, Chancellor was facing no criminal charges at the time of filing of this report.
In the joint statement, officials said the now-former coach is prohibited from being on or around any school district property, as reported by Channel 3000. The school district notified police Friday about the alleged communications. The investigation into the incident remains open and active.
