Our eyes are a precious heritage of our life. But due to increasing screen time, wrong eating habits and not getting enough sleep, eye health can be affected. If we take care of our eyes in time, vision remains strong and healthy.
1. Adopt a balanced diet
Vitamin A, C, E, and zinc are very important for eye health.
- Carrots, Spinach and Sweet Potatoes – Rich in Vitamin A
- Nuts and Seeds – Vitamin E and Omega-3 fatty acids
- Oranges and seasonal fruits – Vitamin C
2. Control screen time
- If you work on computer or mobile for a long time every day, look away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes.
- Follow the “20-20-20 rule” – every 20 minutes look 20 feet away and take 20 seconds of rest.
3. Get enough sleep
Lack of sleep can cause swelling, redness and blurred vision in the eyes. 7–8 hours of sleep daily is necessary.
4. Stay hydrated
Drinking enough water prevents dryness and irritation in the eyes. Drink at least 8–10 glasses of water daily.
5. Get regular eye exams
- Get your eyes checked by an ophthalmologist every 6–12 months.
- Contact a doctor immediately if blurred vision, blinking spots or any changes occur.
6. Give UV protection to eyes
The sun’s UV rays are harmful to the eyes.
- Wear UV protected glasses in the sun.
- Use blue light filters for computer and mobile screens.
Maintaining eye health depends on everyday habits. With a balanced diet, adequate sleep, controlling screen time, and regular checkups, you can keep your vision healthy and strong.
