Actor Manoj Bajpayee’s upcoming Netflix film Ghooskhor Pandat has sparked widespread controversy online, with several social media users objecting to the film’s title and accusing the makers of promoting caste-based stereotyping.
The backlash erupted shortly after the teaser was unveiled on February 3 during a Netflix event. While the teaser presents Bajpayee as a corrupt police officer caught in a web of crime and global conspiracy, critics argue that the title itself is offensive and targets a specific community.
Social Media Backlash Over Film Title
Soon after the teaser’s release, platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) were flooded with posts demanding that Netflix either change the film’s title or withdraw the project altogether. Many users described the title as “casteist” and alleged that it normalises discrimination.
One user wrote, “Normalisation of hatred against Pandits and Brahmins will not be tolerated. Change the title or face legal action.” Another post questioned Netflix’s intent, asking whether the platform would dare to use similar terminology for other communities.
Several users warned of a mass boycott of Netflix if the title is not revised, while others accused the makers of deliberately setting a narrative by naming the film in a controversial manner.
As of the time of publication, Netflix and the film’s team have not issued an official statement addressing the criticism.
