A Netflix drama series that left audiences completely split has at last received confirmation about its destiny from the streaming platform.
Finding Her Edge's inaugural season launched on the service in January this year, chronicling retired figure skater Adriana Russo (Madelyn Keys) as she returns to the realm of competitive skating to save her family's ice rink and preserve her family's Olympic heritage.
Whilst she partners with newcomer Brayden Elliot (Cale Ambrozic) for competition, an encounter with former teammate and past romance Freddie O'Connell (Olly Atkins) causes her to doubt her sporting future.
The eight-part season draws from YA bestseller Finding Her Edge by Jennifer Iacopelli, which takes loose inspiration from Jane Austen's novel Persuasion. Today (February 4), Netflix announced a second season would proceed, regardless of the polarising response to the inaugural run.
Currently, Season 1 maintains an average viewer rating of 61 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes whilst critics bestowed upon it a flawless 100 per cent rating, reports the Manchester Evening News.
One frustrated watcher wrote: "What even is this series? All the characters are a mess, nothing makes sense. The acting is insanely bad. Visually it's super pretty though."
Another commented: "Blunt, inoffensive and occasionally diverting without ever being completely engrossing, it's probably best enjoyed in the background while you commute or fold laundry or (let's be real) scroll your phone."
A third commented: "I wish it had more romance but it was still a fun soapy show," whilst another viewer provided a more favourable assessment, stating: "Finding Her Edge may not be the kind of prestige television that racks up awards, but it delivers a binge-worthy viewing experience."
Nevertheless, those who relished the programme were eager to witness a Season 2, with one enthusiast declaring: "I just binged the whole season and I can say I am obsessed and cannot wait for the next season!" whilst another contributed: "WE NEED ANOTHER SEASON. PLEASE I BEG U NETFLIX."
Finding Her Edge's showrunner Jeff Norton revealed: "I set out to make a show about love, featuring characters navigating a particularly difficult path in their lives and in their sport. It's a true gift to be able to work with such a talented cast to extend these characters' journeys in Season 2."
Meanwhile, author Iacopelli expressed she was "over the moon" regarding the renewal, stating: "To see my book come to life and watch the world fall in love with my characters has been a dream come true, and now that dream gets to continue with a Season 2! I can't wait for audiences to see what's in store for Adriana, Brayden, Freddie, and the rest of Team Russo!"
Finding Her Edge Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix. A release date for Season 2 is yet to be announced. For the latest showbiz, TV, movie and streaming news, go to the new **Everything Gossip** website.
