This separatist movement has been going on in Balochistan for decades. The rebels allege that the central government is exploiting this province rich in resources like coal, gold, copper and gas but the people here are forced to live in poverty. The BLA claims to have killed 280 soldiers in their recent operations although the government has confirmed at least 50 deaths in the attacks. In recent years the insurgents have targeted not only security forces but also Chinese civilians working on projects in the area.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti has taken a tough stance and said that security forces have eliminated more than 700 terrorists in the last 12 months.
