Cancer Causes: Recently there has been a shocking study regarding cancer which has raised new hope for the prevention of the disease. According to this study, based on the analysis of data on many types of cancer in almost 200 countries, about 40% of new cases of cancer worldwide are such, which are possible to prevent. This study has been done by the medical journal Nature Medicine.

What came out in the study?

This new study has found that out of the cancer cases reported globally in the year 2022, about 7 million cases were those which can be changed, controlled or managed. The biggest cause of cancer is smoking, followed by infection and alcohol consumption.

Death from cancer is a big concern

Cancer still remains a major cause of disease and death worldwide. Researchers believe that if the disease is not prevented now, then the cases of cancer may increase rapidly in the coming decades.

What did the scientists who did the research say?

Hannah Fink, the author of this study and an expert on cancer epidemic associated with the International Cancer Research Agency (IARC) of the World Health Organization (WHO), says that most of the research till now has been done on the data of deaths. In these, new cases and many risk factors have been seen together.

Data from 185 countries were analyzed

In this research, researchers have analyzed 2022 cases of 36 different types of cancer in 185 countries. He included 30 causes of cancer which can be changed. Such as tobacco consumption, drinking alcohol and infection.

Cigarate-alcohol is the biggest danger

According to research, in the year 2022, 1.87 crore new cancer cases were reported worldwide, out of which about 38 percent i.e. 71 lakh cases could have been prevented. Tobacco and smoking were responsible for about 15% of these cases. After this, infection was found responsible for 10% and alcohol consumption for 3%.

According to experts, lung, stomach and uterine cancer could have been prevented.

Causes of cancer differ in men and women

Of the 92 lakh new cases reported among women, about 30% could have been prevented. Among these, the biggest role has been played by infections, especially HPV infection, which is the main cause of cervical cancer. These cases are mostly found in low and middle income areas, especially in Africa. At the same time, smoking has been the biggest risk factor in men, which can be prevented.

How will it be prevented?

However, experts have not suggested any procedure for prevention. But he believes that the study has shown that smoking and alcohol are fatal. Therefore, people especially the youth should avoid alcohol, smoking and unsafe sex. These are easy prevention strategies that everyone can adopt.
