Mandhana Highlights Uncapped Players' Contributions
Vadodara (Gujarat) [India], February 4: Smriti Mandhana, the captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has expressed her admiration for the rise of uncapped players within the team this season. She attributes their contributions as vital for enhancing the squad's depth and balance as they prepare for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 final against Delhi Capitals (DC) on February 5.
In her remarks prior to the crucial match, Mandhana reflected on the significant moments brought by these young talents. She noted, “It was wonderful to see Gautami become the first uncapped player to score a fifty. Prema has also made a strong impression. Although she hasn’t had many chances due to our team dynamics, she is an exceptional fielder, a skilled leg-spinner, and a valuable batter. Her performances in the nets have consistently impressed me,” as reported by RCB.
Mandhana also shared her thoughts on Nandini Sharma, the top wicket-taker for Delhi Capitals, recalling her journey from being a net bowler with RCB. “Nandini has been part of our net sessions for the past two years, and I’ve witnessed her dedication. Seeing her achieve her first five-wicket haul truly made me happy. She has always given her all in practice, and I felt her hard work would eventually pay off. I’m thrilled for her,” she added.
Discussing her rapport with RCB Head Coach Malolan Rangarajan, Mandhana emphasized his calming presence within the team. “I’ve known Malo for three years, starting from the first season. Since the second season, especially during auction planning, he has been deeply involved. His calm demeanor remains unchanged, whether we’re struggling at 44 for 4 or in a strong position later in the innings. Many players appreciate his approach, and it has been particularly beneficial for the Indian players. Our bond has grown to the point where we can communicate without words,” she explained.
As the defending champions of the WPL, Royal Challengers Bengaluru face a formidable challenge against the Delhi Capitals, who are making their fourth consecutive final appearance.
