Japan elections: Political fever is running high in Japan these days. These days, Sana-Katsu trend is going on in the country i.e. craze for the first woman PM Sanayi. The madness among the people is evident from the fact that the handbag seen in Sanayi’s hand has disappeared from the market, her pink pen is viral on social and even her favorite snacks are hardly available in the shops.

In Japanese politics these days only Sanayi Takaichi is being discussed. Their magic on the youth is increasing. The country’s 64-year-old Prime Minister Sanayi Takaichi has suddenly become the favorite leader of the youth. Such craze in politics is usually seen for film stars or pop icons, but this time it is visible in the world of politics and at the center of it is the first female Prime Minister of Japan.
This unexpected popularity has been named in Japan as Sana-katsu, i.e. Sana’s Craze. Election surveys are showing that this wave can give Takaichi a historic victory in the general elections to be held on Sunday. It is estimated that his ruling coalition government could win up to 300 seats in the 465-seat lower house of parliament, which is being considered the biggest upset in Japanese politics in recent years.
This change is also shocking because just one and a half years ago the situation was completely opposite. The former Prime Minister had to resign after losing control in both the Houses and the country was going through a period of political instability. But today the same Japan is seen standing behind a leader who has not only assumed power but has also made a place in the hearts of the people, especially the youth. It has also been an uncertain time for the world’s fourth largest economy. She is the fourth Prime Minister in just five years, as her predecessors’ tenure ended prematurely due to falling popularity and scandals.
At 64, Takaichi is no stranger to Japanese politics. Sanayi will turn 65 exactly a month after the elections to be held on Sunday. She was born on 7 March 1961, just a day before World Women’s Day. A well-known ally of Abe, she has held several ministerial posts in her career and has previously contested elections for the post of prime minister.
This simplicity of Takaichi is being liked very much by the general public. Also, she says her words in a straightforward tone. One reason for her popularity among the youth is that they feel that Sanayi is not showy, rather she says only what is practical.
